In 2020, our STEM Sisters Cambodia program won ‘Girls in STEM Award’ from Juniper Network for creating inspiring and compelling STEM initiatives that will increase female participation in STEM activities in the future and continue to drive recruitment. This award, along with support from our loyal partner British Embassy in Cambodia, led to the creation of our first ever pandemic-proof online robotic training, “Robots – Future of Energy.” This program was delivered in a supportive, and gender inclusive environment, and was designed to reach across the provinces to inspire and empower young girls to confidently follow their role models on a STEM pathway and take their rightful place among Cambodia’s future scientists and innovators.

During the program participants learned hands-on Arduino skills, virtual robotics and gained knowledge in clean energy and intellectual property. Teams were supported to enter the World Robot Olympiad Cambodia Round 2021 in the Open Category and Virtual Games Category.

We offer our sincere gratitude to our valued training partners, Genesis Cambodia, IPAC and EnergyLab Asia who assisted us in delivering this innovative program. The program garnered a huge success, having successfully run for 3 months with participants from 19 provinces.

To finish off the program, teams were invited to enter the World Robot Olympiad – Cambodia Round 2021 which was held online with the theme of ‘Powerbots – the Future of Energy’. The winning team of the Senior Open Category, Energific, from E2STEM went on to compete in the International Round in November. We are super proud of their achievement!

This entire program would not have been possible without the significant support from the British Embassy in Cambodia.
